Biography

Jonathan Davison read John Grisham’s The Testament when he was twelve. After finishing the book, he decided to learn how to tell stories that took readers on thrilling adventures.

Shortly thereafter, he discovered Star Wars novels and read all of them before setting out to write his own—a 100,000-word fan fiction titled Star Wars: Ascent of Darkness. He finished it before graduating from high school.

Jonathan studied business at La Sierra University in Riverside, California, and spent a semester in Spain at Escuela Superior de Español de Sagunto. He graduated with a BA in Management in 2012, then spent five years working for La Sierra University as a fundraiser. During that time, he took screenwriting and film production classes in the university’s Department of Film and Television Production.

While working at La Sierra, Jonathan wrote The College Success Cheat Sheet: Simple Ideas to Help You Study Less and Learn More. The book shares the study techniques that helped him overcome his academic challenges and graduate with the President’s Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Student. He also taught a study success course at La Sierra University and has been invited to speak about study techniques at multiple high schools.

Wanting to fulfill his long-held dream of becoming a professional fiction writer, Jonathan enrolled in the Writing Popular Fiction MFA program at Seton Hill University. He graduated in 2019 and wishes every writer the opportunity to attend such a stimulating, challenging, and rewarding program.

Currently, Jonathan works as a filmmaker and photographer for a medical school in Southern California. He recently finished Spring of Fire, a 100,000-word blend of mystery and thriller elements that follows the unruly, brilliant, and humorous attorney Michael Emerson as he helps the FBI investigate his cousin’s murder. Imagine Michael Crichton’s Prey meets Nelson DeMille’s John Corey series, and you’ll have a good idea of the content and tone of Spring of Fire. Jonathan is also working on a new novel, a thriller about a deadly plot to avenge one of America’s most daring acts of sabotage on Russian soil during the Cold War.

When he’s not working or writing, he enjoys outdoor adventures. He has day-hiked Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States, seven times, and can frequently be found in the desert, in the ocean, or exploring mountain trails on foot or his mountain bike. He also enjoys landscape photography and works occasional real estate and architecture photography side gigs. You can view his photography portfolio at www.jldavidson.com.
